9 Chilled and Effective Methods to Help You Relax

We all know the importance of being able to relax. However, with our busy lives it is easy to forget until we are at super stressed levels. Relaxation is key to help you relax by reducing excess stress and its effects.

Here are 9 chilled and effective methods to help you relax right now.

Enjoy a warm shower

Allow the shower to steam, and breathe deep to absorb the steam into your lungs. As the water rushes around your neck, slowly drop your head forward and gently stretch your neck from side to side. Then circle your shoulders slowly under the hot water.

Don’t forget to do your skin care routine once you are finished, to keep your face glowing.

Practice focused relaxation

This is something you should absolutely do every day; perhaps start with five minutes, and increase it slowly from there.

Choose a quiet space. Sit comfortably either cross legged or with you legs straight in front of you.

Close your eyes and then start to scan your body, noticing where you feel tension or discomfort. Breathe slowly and count your breaths.

Picture those sore or tense areas relaxing, and being replaced by a warm feeling of calm.

Take a power nap

Naps are great, and effective to help you relax, even if it’s only for ten minutes. Power naps can really help. Find a nice, cool and dark place where you won’t be disturbed and close your eyes.

Meditation is another way to help you relax. You will probably have a better chance of sticking with a meditation technique you learn in a class or other group, however in the meantime you can try this. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Count each exhale to ten, and then start at one again. Give this repetitive counting your full attention.

When other thoughts or images come into your mind, ignore them and let them just flow in and out. Don’t stress about them too much, or quit meditation because you can’t focus immediately.

Abdominal breathing

Inhale slowly through your nose. Exhale completely, squeezing the belly tight. Begin by practicing for 5 minutes at a time. Try it when you feel anxious or can’t sleep.

Do a yoga class

Yoga poses are well known as a fantastic method to help you relax. Many people report that regular Yoga, either in classes or done solo at home, increases relaxation and relieves many of the effects of stress.

Try auto suggestion

Frequently repeat a suggestion to yourself such as “Relax your shoulders” or “Calm your breath.” Repeat the suggestion, but don’t strain or do anything at all but say the phrase. This plants an idea which may gently support muscle relaxation.

Soak in a hot bath

A hot bath will help you relax. Add several drops of essential oils such as lavender, or even Epsom salts if you have any. A hot bath is great for relaxation. If you don’t have time for a full bath, then even just spend 15 minutes and soak your feet.

Enjoy a massage

When you receive a nice massage, you will find that you let go of tension, breathe better and your worries are reduced. This is a great opportunity to just focus on the feeling of the massage and work on active relaxation.

There are many types of massage therapy out there. Receiving a massage actually helps you tune into feelings of relaxation, and it naturally encourages your body and mind to let go of stress and tension.
